“Be a yardstick of quality.  Some people aren’t used to an environment where excellence is expected” Steve Jobs

Expecting excellence wouldn’t be an issue if you followed 3 simple rules:

– employ the Right People in the
– Right Roles who are
– Focused on the Right Things

Now, surely that has to be the recipe for success!  The right people in the right roles, focusing on the right things would be:

– Happy
– Productive
– Strive for excellence because
– they Love what they do

Boy, who wouldn’t want to turn up to that workplace every day?

PCYCYesterday, I started as a volunteer at the local PCYC (Police Citizens Youth Club). I was lucky enough to have a long chat with the Branch Manager about her vision for the club, which was so inspiring.

One of the things Julia mentioned to me was her frustration about having some wonderful staff and volunteers who really need to be working in areas they love and are good at. With so many other things on her plate, she wasn’t too sure how to go about it or where to start.

Well, you have to say she was speaking to the right person, as I’m very passionate about having the right people in the right roles and yes you guessed it, focusing on the right things!

So we’ll be working together using the tools from Extended DISC to profile people and roles and putting them happily together.

In a small town, staff and volunteers are hard to come by, so if you’re able to get them doing tasks which they love doing, they’ll stay longer.  Very important for an organisation doing a great community service, working on a small budget but having to have the vision and financial acumen of any big business.

I’m so pleased to be able to contribute in some small way to the ongoing transformation of this very important organisation.

Of course, what we are planning here is equally important to your business and businesses everywhere.

Those three key areas minimise staff turnover, friction within departments and overall productivity.  Getting this right would ensure teams are motivated and deliver their projects on time.

If you decide you want to make some changes to your workplace, consider chatting to Nicole, our HR/Recruitment Manager about profiling your key staff and roles to ensure you go into 2013 with everyone flying in the right direction.

If you’re looking to recruit, she can also speak with you about how we use this profiling technique to get the right person into the right role, however, it’s up to you to get them focusing on the right thing!

If you are looking to recruit, profile some key staff or roles or need some casual HR support, give me a call or fille in the contact form on the right hand side of this page.

On another note, yesterday was a pretty good day for me to say the least.  Not only did I start volunteering at the PCYC but I also received an email to say I had been nominated for the 2013 Telstra Business Women Awards.
I am excited and humbled but have to admit I wouldn’t be able to do what I do with so much passion, if I didn’t have such a great team around me.  Thanks everyone for making me look good!

I’ll leave you with a short movie from Simple Truths about teamwork – Pulling Together.

Until next time.
