Everything!

Very rarely do companies or even individuals attach much value to these extraordinarily important skills.  Companies wonder why they have staff problems and individuals wonder why their lives aren’t working out as they had hoped or planned.

Peggy Klaus said “Soft skills get very little respect but will make or break your career“.

Perhaps one of the problems is that some people don’t even know what the term relates to.  So let me enlighten you with a definition.

soft skills (noun) – personal attributes that enable someone to interact effectively and harmoniously with other people.

Seems pretty important to me – what about you?  Life 101 really, to interact effectively and harmoniously with other people.  A shame it doesn’t happen that way.

Working in the field of that intangible thing called Confidence, I bring awareness to individuals of how they can use soft skills to create a better life.  It’s wonderful, frustrating, thought-provoking, humbling and I wouldn’t do anything else.

It’s frustrating because I speak to so many women who wish they had more confidence but won’t get off their bums and do anything about it or they think they need a University Degree to progress, when they need to look at their interpersonal skills first.

It’s humbling because I have worked with women who have gone on to achieve amazing things in their lives once they understood what they needed to do.

Thought-provoking because the stories I hear are extraordinary.

Wonderful because I wouldn’t want to do anything else.

Julie Cross and I were speaking at the same conference recently and what she said is burned into my brain “I do what I do for the people who get it”.

Well said Julie – thank you for giving me this affirmation when dealing with the people who don’t get it.

The key to Confidence is get your soft skills right. You will lower your stress levels and be happier.  And believe me, your family, friends and colleagues will thank you for it.
